Nintendo looks into your eyes - and sees into your soul with the Nintendo 3DS

Nintendo usually isn't the prime candidate when one thinks of innovation. However their recent leap into the console market may not have given them the advantage with graphics, but their intuitive (albeit not very accurate) Wiimote system has put them in the same league as their Microsoft and Sony counterparts. The same holds true even now. As the Nintendo DSi XL is being spread across gaming press this week (we didn't get one to be sure, maybe next year?), Nintendo also saw fit to announce its newest product in its portable selection: the Nintendo 3DS.

ABSOLUT Vodka makes a smash hit...movie?

STOCKHOLM (Mar 23) - Marketing these days is getting more and more creative. The internet spawns the most innovative marketing techniques, like those banner ads we all love, and spam e-mails, and the like. There are also plenty of product placements in various movies, which prove to be quite successful. However, ABSOLUT Vodka has taken it to the next level to hire Spike Jonze (Creator of both the recent Where the Wild Things Are and Jackass) to create a 30-minute robot love story, purely for ABSOLUT "www.imheremovie.com".

Activision brings Zhu Zhu to the DS - Feeds After Midnight

Our beloved Activision Publishing, proud owner of the Guitar Hero franchise, and now Blizzard, is branching out into a new age of gaming. That's right, they're bringing toy hamsters to the DS. Zhu Zhu Pets, the "Toy of the Year" winning hamsters, which are a cross between Tickle Me Elmo, Barbie, Hot Wheels, and probably any other number of popular toys mixed into one. It seems that they did their marketing properly as Activision has taken note and brought all the fun-filled experience of owning the toy in real life to the DS. At least people won't see you outside with your Zhu Zhu Pet.

AuthenTec Sensor makes Fingerprint Development .. Better

MELBOURNE, FL (Mar 23) - Fingerprint recognition devices used to be a thing for the use of high level, and high budget organization like the Pentagon, or secret organizations bent on ruling the world. However, AuthenTec, a leading provider of identity management, security, and touch control products, announced that its ATW310 fingerprint sensor has been integrated into a new, lowcost fingerprint development kit unveiled today by Texas Instruments. This will make it easier for manufacturers to develop fingerprint-enabled access control products for things such as locks, time and attendance monitoring systems (no more time fraud folks unless you're willing to lose a thumb over it), all the way to regular consumer products such as Data Storage, USB Smart Keys, Smart/Cellphones, and other portable devices.

@ becomes Art - Symbol inducted into MoMA

This isn't an ASCII joke. @ Is now everywhere, and is being used for more and more daily usages from e-mail all the way to Twitter. It has beaten the ampersand (&) and the number sign (#) in terms of relevancy in today's society, and it seems that the Museum of Modern Art has recognized it's importance in today's society not only as a functional symbol, but as a historical piece of art.

"Facebook" Virus Strikes Again!

The term "Hacker" seems to be a tad over-used these days, but according to a news release by (Reuters), "Hackers" have spread virus-borne spam e-mails that target's Facebook's 400 million person userbase. The virus, according to a McAfee statement on Wednesday, is in an e-mail that tells you that your Facebook passwords have been reset, and urges you to click on an attachment to get your new login credentials. What it actually gets you instead, among other things, is your banking information, passwords, and other types of malicious software.

The Fast Food Mafia

Everyone knows that the fast food industry is evil in its own right. I mean come on, trying to make money by making people succumb to their inner-most desires of greasy but oh-so-good french fries and burgers that probably have anti-nauseants in them just so your body can digest it.

Activision teams with ABC to bring Wipeout! to your DS and WII - No pain necessary

SANTA MONICA, CA - Activision Publishing announced in a press release that it is bringing ABC's hit show "Wipeout" to your Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii. Wipeout: The Game will bring all of the intricacies of having to master your balance, speed, and precision (pretty much Wii Sports on 4 cans of Red Bull), to overcome the world's largest and comical obstacle course on American TV.

"Watching ABC's 'Wipeout' on TV is outrageous fun, and viewers can't help but dream of trying the obstacles themselves," stated David Oxford, from Activision Publishing. "We designed the video game with this in mind. Wipeout: The Game brings all of the challenge and laugh-out-loud hilarity without the pain."

Google TV - Next step in World Domination

Google has slowly but surely gotten a foothold in all facets of our society, starting from a simple search engine, all the way to our phones, browsers, OS, internet advertisements, and the like. It seems that they are still not slowing down anytime soon. They are looking towards a new (or perhaps older horizon), the more antiquated media, Television.

The project, dubbed Google TV (I'm sure GTV is already taken somewhere), is a partnership between Sony, Intel, and Logitech to create a product that would enable TV goers to view popular internet content through their televisions. Very reminiscent of Apple TV, the Xbox 360, or the Playstation Platforms, it's definitely not uncharted territory to say the least.

Geek Factor is officially Twittered and Facebooked

If you haven't yet seen that blatantly obvious fanbox on the top of the sidebar, then go ahead and take a gander at it. It's the Facebook fanpage! On top of that we also have a Twitter account now at www.twitter.com/GeekFactor.  Things are rolling on smoothly with the site, we have taken a few suggestions and changed the white text on orange background into black, to make it a tad easier on the eyes. Any other constructive feedback is welcome whether it be what you want to see from the site in the future of its development, any layout inputs, or just a rant about the site in general!

Final Fantasy XIII sets franchise record

Square Enix has reported a record breaking 1million units in its first week of North American sales, totaling a whopping 96 million units worldwide since its debut in Japan. This even among the primary complaint of the game having much too linear gameplay, especially in the first half of the game.

3DTV - Fad or Standard of Innovation?

We've all come to love the experience of being able to see various movies in 3D. You get to pay an extra 4 bucks for your ticket, get cool glasses with RFID tags so you don't steal them but don't actually work all that well, and if you're lucky and see it in IMAX, then you also get to see a cool laser show in the beginning. All of these play a part in the experience you have in being able to see things in 3D (Because real life isn't good enough). That being said, Sony's latest technological push relies on bringing the 3D experience into your home, glasses and all.

Now, it's all well and good to be able to enjoy a 3D movie once in a while, but to bring it to your TV?
It might be a little tedious, especially when you have to wear glasses every time you watch TV. Especially for us geeks who already have glasses (assuming you don't have contacts), this poses an exceptionally difficult situation of BEING ABLE TO SEE. Aside from this very minor detail, we can all assume that the future holds perfect 20/20 vision for all. The question is, are people willing to pay for it?

Fashion versus Geek

Geeks and Fashion have never seemed to get along. When the average person thinks of the geek stereotype, they can conjure up images of Steve Urkel, Bill Nye, or maybe even Mr. Bean. Now as far niches go, geeks have somewhat of a bad rap, because well.. of the meaning of the word geek in the first place.

Let me digress to a history lesson (according to almighty wiki): "The word geek is a slang term, noting individuals as 'a peculiar or otherwise odd person, especially one who is perceived to be overly obsessed with one or more things including those of intellectuality, electronics, etc.' " The word itself comes from an English dialect Geek, or Geck meaning: Fool. I don't know about you, but I don't know how an intellectually astute and technologically savvy group of people can stand for being called fools. Maybe they just don't care? I would rather rationalize in a different manner. "If you can't beat em, join em." is the motto that works best here, I believe. Throughout the past few decades, the attitude of being geeky has garnered looks of disgust, and many a wedgie in our elementary (and even high school) hallways.

Making Money with Money

You may know the old axiom that goes "It takes money to make money." It couldn't be more true in so many ways. Unless you have thousands of dollars to invest in a business, however, then your options are much more limited.

Fear not friends! There is hope. If you're one of the lucky people that haven't ravaged their credit and actually have money TO save, then this advice is for you. If you're not, come back later and we'll give you some advice on how to get out of that debt, at which point you can refer back to this post.

God of War 3 Achievement Unlocks Mystery

First of all if you haven't picked up a copy of God of War 3 yet, Sony's final installment of the epic God of War series which started originally for the PS2, then do so. However, if you are one of the millions that have gotten your hands on this game, and one of the even fewer that have gotten a platinum trophy through PSN, then you may have noticed that it gives you a 'secret' website URL "http://www.godofwar.com/spartansstandtall/".

As of this writing, the current picture is of a stormy seashore with thunder in the background and heavy rains on the water. On the top right is a gauge of some sort, which is currently at 1/4 filled, filling clockwise.

"Iphone 4G" Rumour Bin

It's almost that time of year again. Nope, not talking about Easter. I'm talking about Apple Keynote Day! That time of year where Mac fanboys and girls go giddy over Steve Jobs gracing us with his presence on that ever-ominous stage at the WWDC (World Wide Developers Conference) on June 8-12. In preparation, and as a flagship post for Geek Factor and as an Apple fan myself, we're going to give you a roundup of the current rumors that about the interwebs about the iPhone, and the percentage of probability that they will come to pass and why. Let the rumour bin begin!
