"Iphone 4G" Rumour Bin

It's almost that time of year again. Nope, not talking about Easter. I'm talking about Apple Keynote Day! That time of year where Mac fanboys and girls go giddy over Steve Jobs gracing us with his presence on that ever-ominous stage at the WWDC (World Wide Developers Conference) on June 8-12. In preparation, and as a flagship post for Geek Factor and as an Apple fan myself, we're going to give you a roundup of the current rumors that about the interwebs about the iPhone, and the percentage of probability that they will come to pass and why. Let the rumour bin begin!

1) Better Camera (90%)

It's only natural that the iPhone will grace is with a better camera, to become on par if not better with other smartphones on the market, notably its RIM counterparts. Having a better resolution camera, with its iPhone 3GS video capabilities will truly create a media powerhouse. Rumours indicate that it could be as much as 5 Megapixels, putting it in the same league as Google's Nexus One.

2) LED Flash (70%)

The LED Flash feature would be a great addition to the iPhone, and would definitely make it a moot difference between the Blackberrys that are out there today. However, the reason that this is only a 70% chance is that although it would make it better, Apple would have to make the new device much more aesthetically different from its previous generations (Which is still a strong possibility).

3) New Iphone OS (50%)

We're not really hanging onto this one too much. With the iPad's launch April of this year, there were no notable distinguishing factors that would make it extremely likely that they would overhaul the OS AND the App store unless they wanted to integrate magazine subscriptions within the App store as well.

4) OLED Screen (30%)

A lot of people on the internet are rooting for and OLED screen on the iPhone. I for one am not one of them. Sure they do look beautiful..in a dark room for your tv. If you've had the chance to use an OLED handheld device in the sunshine, it's really not all that great. According to Wikipedia, OLED screens can only emit 200 nits of light, which makes for poor readability in sunlight. Unless Apple can completely overhaul OLED technology and manage to keep it top-secret (which is possible), only then will it make a welcome addition to the iPhone 4G.

5) Other (??%)

There are a lot of other rumors circulating that don't really have much credibility. Things like a reversible camera, Touch sensitive Case, AM/FM Radio, Full Metal Unibody Casing, a built-in DVR and RFID chip are all candidates for upgrades. None of these improvements have shown any substantiated proof that they would be in the next revision of the iPhone, nor do they offer significant consumer improvement as a whole.

The long and short of these rumours is this: We're excited to see the next generation iPhone. Whether or not it will be dubbed the "4G", we are all hoping that it will be a much bigger leap technologically than the 3GS was compared to the 3G. That's all for our first post of the website! If you would like to leave comments on how to improve the site or what you would like to see happen, please leave a comment and we'll be sure to respond.

Thanks for reading!
